Calgary winter construction site safety is driven by three bylaws running in parallel: the Community Standards Bylaw (noise), the Land Use Bylaw 1P2007 (setback, hoarding, and property maintenance), and the Maintenance & Occupancy Standards Bylaw 20M88 (24-hour snow and ice removal on the public sidewalk). Builders who only understand one of them get caught by the other two — usually on the first sustained cold snap of the season.

- Community Standards Bylaw — noise hours: 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Winter compresses this window; plan start times and neighbour notifications around it.
- Land Use Bylaw 1P2007 — setback & hoarding: Material staging must respect DP-approved setbacks. Hoarding must be maintained, lit, and snow-cleared at the sidewalk interface.
- Bylaw 20M88 — 24-hour clearing: Sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours of snowfall ending. The builder or general contractor is the responsible party while a permit is open.
